Pat Spiers is our teacher aboard the flotilla that is heading to the remote South West Tasmanian wilderness coast beginning 18th February. The reports that are updated here will be specially tailored to upper primary classrooms. The curriculum focus areas are:
1. Geography (Australian communities – their past, present and possible futures, Factors that shape places (NSW), Geographical inquiry skills)
2. Science (Biological, Chemical, Earth and Space sciences).
Pat will be aiming to answer the following inquiry questions:
- What and where is SW Wilderness coast of Tas (SWT)?
- What is it like? What are the characteristics of the land and water landforms and habitats?
- How do people and the environments of SWT influence one another?
- How do people influence the places of SWT?
- How are the spaces and places of SWT managed?
- How is marine litter changing the land and waters of SWT?
- How did it come to be like this, and why?
- What fieldwork methods are needed to investigate and better manage the marine litter problem?
- What different viewpoints and opinions are there, and why?
- What should happen next, and why?
- What do I think / feel / do about this, and why?
- How is the issue of marine litter in SWT like/different from other places, and why?
